Polley Software is an independent software company. It is small on purpose: the person who designs a system is the person who builds it and the person who answers for it in production.
How we work
Most of our work is on systems that were either built to last or need to start doing so. That shapes a few habits:
- Correctness before throughput. A financial system that is fast and occasionally wrong is not fast; it is wrong.
- Failures that announce themselves. The expensive outages are the quiet ones — the service that looks healthy and has silently stopped doing its job.
- Written-down reasoning. Code says what it does; the comment says why it is that way, so the next change does not undo a decision nobody remembers making.
- Few dependencies. Every third party is a promise somebody else has to keep.
